PAKISTAN: DEATH SENTENCE CONVERTED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT

a full bench of the Federal Shariat Court in Pakistan converted the death sentence of two convicts awarded by a session court in a rape case into life imprisonment and set aside their punishment of whipping. The court ruled that there were grave discrepancies in the prosecution evidence and the benefit of doubt should be extended to the convicts.
