PAKISTAN. FIVE TRIBAL MILITANTS SENTENCED TO DEATH

a Pakistani court sentenced five tribal militants to death for killing six people in an attack in southwestern Pakistan.
The Baluch National Army (BNA), a shadowy militant group fighting for more autonomy for the resource-rich region, claimed responsibility for the attack at the time.
Those killed included five soldiers traveling in a vehicle which was attacked near the town of Khuzdar in Baluchistan province in August 2004.
The judge announced the verdict in the presence of two convicts as three others were still on the run. A sixth accused was acquitted for lack of evidence.
"These (five) have been found guilty of committing the crime," said Abdul Ghayyas Nousherwani, judge of a special anti-terrorism court in the provincial capital Quetta.
Tribal militants had been waging a low-level insurgency in Baluchistan, the country's largest but poorest province, for decades, but had recently intensified their attacks.
