PAKISTAN. LAHORE “BRICK KILLER” SENTENCED TO DEATH

an anti-terrorism court in the Pakistani city of Lahore sentenced to death Aamir Qayum, an alleged serial killer convicted of murder. Qayum was also charged with bludgeoning to death 12 other people, verdicts were due the following week. The victims, mostly labourers who slept rough on the streets, were hit with rocks or bricks as they slept. Qayum, 25, was arrested in July 2005. The Media labeled him "brick killer" because of the manner of the crimes. The murders, which took place at almost regular intervals during 2005, shocked Lahore. Police said Aamir Qayum was "a violence-prone person" who killed to avenge his uncle's murder nearly three years previously.
