the Sindh High Court in Karachi, Pakistan, dismissed the appeal of Shafqat Hussain, a man sentenced to death for kidnapping and killing a boy for ransom. Hussain had been sentenced to death on two counts by the anti terrorism court in Karachi after being found guilty of kidnapping and killing seven-year-old Umair Ali.
According to prosecution, the accused kidnapped the boy from the New Town area of Karachi on April 10, 2004. Hussein demanded Rs. 500,000 from the boy’s family but later killed him when he cried and made a fuss. The court maintained the death sentence on Hussein on charges of kidnapping but reduced the death sentence awarded him for the murder of the child to five years imprisonment.
