Pakistan's Anti-Terrorism Court in the eastern city of Multan sentenced Qari Umar Hayat to death on 16 counts with a fine of 4.8 million rupees (approx. 80,000 US dollars) for the murder of 16 people.

Pakistan's Anti-Terrorism Court in the eastern city of Multan sentenced Qari Umar Hayat to death on 16 counts with a fine of 4.8 million rupees (approx. 80,000 US dollars) for the murder of 16 people. It was alleged the convict shot dead the victims on January 1, 1999 at a religious gathering at a village in the Muzaffargarh district of eastern Pakistan's Punjab province. The motive for the crime was not reported.
