Two of the defendants had originally been sentenced to death and the third jailed for life upon first being sentenced on April 15, 2002. Their appeals had earlier been dismissed by the Sindh High Court on February 22, 2006, which also enhanced to a sentence of death the life term imprisonment handed down to Shahid Hanif.
