PAKISTAN. MUSHARRAF ATTACKER ALLOWED TO APPEAL AGAINST DEATH SENTENCE

the Pakistan Supreme Court permitted an appeal to be filed by Naik Arshad Mahmood, a man sentenced to death for his involvement in an assassination bid on President Pervez Musharraf. A two-member bench of the Supreme Court granted Mahmood, who was sentenced to death in Rawalpindi by a military court on December 25, 2003, along with other accused, leave to appeal against the order. He had previously moved the Military Court of Appeal, but his appeal was rejected and later the Lahore High Court also dismissed his appeal. He then moved the Supreme Court, seeking the right to appeal against the military court’s conviction.
