PAKISTAN. TWO MEN TO BE EXECUTED FOR RAPE SAVED FOLLOWING PARDON

a Pakistani national identified only as M.A., whose five-year-old daughter was raped and murdered in Sharjah, Pakistan, pardoned two men accused of the crime just before they were scheduled to be executed. The two men, identified as J.M , a 21-year-old UAE national, and M.K, a 22 year old stateless Arab, had been sentenced to death for rape and murder in 2001 by the Sharjah criminal court and were pardoned by the victim's father just five minutes before the execution was to be carried out.
The father, an Imam and preacher in a mosque in Al Dhaid District, pardoned the two accused on condition that they pay blood money and help him every day for a year to preach at the mosque and spread Islamic teachings to the community.
A police source said that the girl’s father stopped the execution of the men at 5am on November 2, just before they were to be put to death. The accused agreed to the Imam's condition and the death sentence was cancelled.
The girl, identified as R.M., was studying the Koran in the mosque where her father served as Imam and preacher. The two men reportedly kidnapped the girl from near the mosque and raped her in their car. They then threw her body into a nearby creek.
