Porfirio Lobo, a Honduran conservative seeking to bring back the death penalty after 60 years, won the ruling National Party's presidential primary. With 35 percent of the vote counted, results showed Lobo had 63 percent of the votes from the primary. Tegucigalpa Mayor Miguel Pastor, Lobo's opponent, conceded the election. 
Lobo, the president of Congress, would face landowner Manuel Zelaya, the opposition Liberal Party candidate, in the November 27 general election.
Lobo wanted to reinstate the death penalty for vicious murders and multiple killings in an effort to combat youth gangs known as "maras".
