Portugal will not give in to US pressure on the signing of an agreement with the EU providing for the extradition to the USA of people involved in serious crimes, such as terrorism.
Justice Minister Antonio Costa said that Portugal and other countries at the European Council meeting scheduled for September 21 would be advocating a "no to extradition, under any circumstances, unless there are guarantees that the death penalty will not be applied".
