President Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with Interfax that Belarus had taken some steps towards limiting the death penalty. The Belarusian leader stressed that if earlier, "about 30 people fell under this procedure (execution) annually, last year only three did".
This year, new legislation has been in effect in Belarus, envisaging, unlike past years, punishment for convicts in the form of life imprisonment, Lukashenko said.
