President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said her campaign against drug trafficking was a fight to the finish and warned the Philippines could become "Asia's Colombia" if the drug menace was not promptly curbed.
Arroyo, in her statement, said she had directed the Interior Department to draft a proposed law that would give more teeth to the country's Dangerous Drugs Act, which imposes the death penalty on people found carrying at least 200 grams of "ice".
She said the senate hearings had shown how grave the drugs menace was and pledged she "will employ all the powers in (her) command to prevent the country from ever being a narco-state where drug lords lord over the nation."
