Prime Minister John Howard described the death sentence by stoning given to Amina Lawal in Nigeria for having a child out of wedlock, as sickening and said he would relay his feelings to the country's president. "This is appalling in every way," Mr Howard told Sydney radio 2GB. "The very notion that somebody could be put to death for adultery; the very notion that it could be carried out in such a barbaric and cruel way is something that people all around the world are appalled at. I will certainly be conveying to the Nigerian president my view to that effect."
