a Doha court sentenced a Qatari national (32) to death by hanging or firing squad after being convicted of killing a compatriot in January last year. Another Qatari (26), who was charged in the same case, was acquitted for lack of evidence. The murder took place near Sauda Nathil area, close to the Saudi border in the south of Qatar on January 14, 2006. The two were accused of knocking the victim down by a Land Cruiser and leaving him bleeding in the desert following a dispute over drugs and alcohol. The convicted men were not identified by name.
