Richard Baumhammers, 35, was sentenced to death for of the April 28, 2000 killing of 5 people in a racially motivated shooting spree in suburban Pittsburgh last year. Jurors had the option of giving him life in prison without parole. Prosecutors said Baumhammers, who is white, selected his victims because of their ethnic backgrounds. Killed were Baumhammers' Jewish neighbor, 2 Asian men, an Indian man and a black man.
