Rimma Demirchyan, the widow of National Assembly Speaker Karen Demirchyan, who also was killed in the act of terrorism in the 1999 Armenian parliament, described as "unacceptable" the fulfilment of the Council of Europe's requirement on lifting death penalty in Armenia. Rimma Demirchyan said that the opinions of the chief defendant on the case of 27 October, Nairi Unanyan, about his intentions to run in the Armenian presidential elections [in 2003] were "the ultimate humiliation" of the victims of the act of terrorism and their relatives.
