A Palestinian National Authority (PNA) court sentenced a Palestinian student to death after charging him with collaborating with Israel. Akram Zatma, of the Rafah town in the southern Gaza Strip, was convicted of collaboration with the Israeli intelligence service, known as the Shin Bet. Abdel Aziz Wadi, a judge of the PNA state security court, accused Zatma of selling information to the Shin Bet, leading to the killing of top Hamas commander Sheikh Salah Shehada and 15 others in July in Gaza City. An Israeli F-16 warplane fired a bomb at a civilian building in July, killing Shehada and 15 other Palestinians and destroying dozens of houses in the Daraj neighborhood of the city. The verdict was given after Zatma confessed that he had told the Shin Bet where Shehada was hiding.
