Rwandan Bishop Augustin Misago, on trial in Rwanda on genocide charges, sent a message of thanks to Pope John Paul for sending him a telegram of support in prison. "It reached me at the right moment, that is at the time when the prosecution had requested the death penalty for me, a measure I consider totally unfair and unfounded," he wrote. Misago said he was a scapegoat and the victim of a political campaign against the Church.
