Sammy Fields, 31, was convicted of murder and first-degree burglary Wednesday in a retrial. He was originally convicted in 1997 of the 1993 death of 84-year-old Bess Stidham Horton and was sentenced to death. The Kentucky Supreme Court struck down the conviction in 2000. The court ruled that jurors should not have been allowed to hear the audio portions of the police officer's video of the crime scene. Floyd County Circuit Judge John David Caudill ordered shackles taken off Fields before he went into the courtroom.
