The Additional District and Sessions Judge Court in Sylhet, Bangladesh, sentenced six people to death and one to life imprisonment in two separate murder cases

The Additional District and Sessions Judge Court in Sylhet, Bangladesh, sentenced six people to death and one to life imprisonment in two separate murder cases. In the first case Dhunu Mia, Ahmed Ali, Abdus Salam and Tera Mia were given death penalties and Alamgir Hosain was given life imprisonment for killing one Asia Begum. According to the prosecution, on 19 March 1995 the convicts abducted Asia Begum of Vatpara village in Bishwanath over a land dispute. Her beheaded body was later found at Nilgaon in Sadar on March 15 of the same year. Her head was found at Umairgaon. In the second murder case Nooruddin and Sabul Mia were sentenced to death for murdering a man named Moktadir. The prosecution alleged that the convicts attacked the victim at a local graveyard on 12 November 2000 over a land dispute, and left him seriously injured. He died later in hospital.
