Sen. Ramon Revilla, one of the original proponents of the death penalty law (Republic Act 7559) said President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Congress should rethink their policy and stand on the suspension and repeal of the death penalty law in the view of the recent spate of bombings in Zamboanga and in Manila. Sen. Revilla said the government should implement the law to show terrorists that "the State can fight back and seek retribution for its dead and wounded." Mr. Revilla also said that those behind the bombings should be punished "in full view of the public." Last month, Ms. Arroyo suspended all executions as Congress debates on whether to repeal the death penalty law.
