Signatures in support for death penalty for terrorists and their accomplices began to be collected in the Kemerovo Region of Russia. The initiative came from the regional branch of the United Russia Party and deputies to the local councils from the Serving Kuzbass bloc.
Their suggestion on the toughening of punishment for those who finance, organise and stage bloody crimes against the civilian population found wide support amongst those working for public organisations.
"Siberians regard terrorists as the main threat, because they encroach upon the integrity of the state and the security of people. They try to upset social stability," said Alexander Lyubimov, secretary of the political council of the United Russia branch.
A representative of the task group for the collection of signatures specified that the signature lists, made up in conformity with the legislation, would be submitted to the State Duma before it began to discuss additional measures to counter terrorism.
