seafood-stall boss Eu Lim Hoklai, 57, escaped the gallows when Justice V. K. Rajah of the Singaporean Court of Appeal overturned his mandatory death sentence. Hoklai was convicted by the High Court in 2009 for murdering his Chinese mistress Madam Yu Hongjin, 30, in Ang Mo Kio on June 18, 2006. The appeal judges found the death was caused in the heat of the moment, either upon a sudden fight or grave and sudden provocation.
