Six of 23 offenders charged with drug trafficking were sentenced to death by the People's Court in Vietnam's Nghe An province, according to a report of Vietnam's official news agency VNA.
Nguyen Duc Luong and five of his hardened accomplices face death while ten others will serve life jail sentences, announced the judge after the week-long trial wrapped up.
Seven members of the drug trafficking syndicate were given terms ranging from three to 19 years in prison and Luong's sister received a suspended sentence.
The 23 convicts were found guilty of trafficking more than 40 kilograms of heroin, and 247 kilograms of opium, from Laos to Vietnam between 1994 and 1999.
