Six [unidentified] people were executed in Panjshir [the Northern Alliance's stronghold in the eastern Kapisa Province] for the murder of prominent opposition commander Abdullah Jan Wahidi. An official source told the Afghan Islamic Press that a court under [the former defence minister under the ousted government] Ahmad Shah Masood sentenced the six people to death and they were executed after the verdict had been passed. An opposition spokesman confirmed the execution and said that the murderers' leader had been executed too. Alliance spokesman Dr Abdullah said the six had confessed to killing Abdullah Jan Wahidi in an ambush as he was driving to the Panjsher valley, stronghold of the opposition led by commander Ahmad Shah Masood. According to Abdullah, the assailants said the attack was personal. Blood feuds and revenge attacks are an ever-present aspect of Afghan life.
