Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said that the execution of three hijackers in Cuba on April 11 proves that Fidel Castro "is a tyrant" and "has been one for many years." On April 2, three Cuban men hijacked a Havana ferry in an unsuccessful attempt to flee the island. They were subsequently arrested and sentenced to death in summary trials. They were executed by firing squad just nine days after the failed attempt to reach the United States. "I hope the international community condemns these executions and that all people who believe in freedom, human rights and that there is no place for tyrants in the world, do likewise," said Rajoy.
