SUDAN REJECTS EU PROPOSAL TO FORGO CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

the Sudanese government rejected a proposal by the EU calling for abolishing capital punishment in Sudan in exchange for suspending the bid by the ICC's prosecutor for issuing an arrest warrant against President Umar al-Bashir.
The under-secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mutrif Siddiq, said that the government's position on capital punishment was an established one in view of the fact that it is part of the Islamic Shari'a law.
