Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh met with Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit and Foreign Minister Ismail Cem during a visit to Ankara. Lindh told Ecevit that the decision to postpone the execution of Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the PKK [Kurdistan Workers' Party], created a very positive effect. Lindh also visited the Human Rights Association and met with its former president, Akin Birdal. Lindh and Birdal talked about issues concerning the abolition of the death penalty in Turkey and the developments related to it.
