Amnon Cohen, the man who asked to become the first Israeli sentenced to death, expressed deep regret and asked his family for forgiveness at the Tel Aviv District Court. Cohen had hired a computer technician to break into his wife's e-mail account because he suspected her of having a virtual affair with someone she met over the Internet. After reading her e-mail, he brutally murdered his wife and children. He then mailed a letter to the Yediot Aharonot and Ma'ariv newspapers saying that he had killed his wife because she was unfaithful to him and killed his children because he did not want them to grow up as orphans. He told the court that he had acted out of uncontrollable fury and did not understand how he could have been found sane.
