the Taiwanese Supreme Court confirmed the 23 year old death sentence of Chiou Ho-shun. He was sentenced in 1989 for the 1987 crimes of kidnapping Lu Cheng and murdering Ko Hung Yu-lan. After an official investigation in 1994, two public prosecutors and ten police officers were convicted of extracting Chiou's confessions through torture. In 2003, police also admitted they covered up the fact that a man executed for other offences had confessed to the murder. Chiou's case has bounced back and forth between the High Court and the Supreme Court for retrial 11 times.
