Taiwan is looking at tightening procedures for harvesting organs from executed prisoners in reaction to allegations of human rights abuses, an official with the Bureau of Medical Affairs under the Department of Health, Chen I-an, said.
The taking of organs from executed prisoners should be handled strictly in accordance with existing regulations, the Justice Ministry ordered. Rights groups had criticised the procedure for removing organs, saying that authorities were not allowing enough time to check that the prisoner was dead.
