"Our current policy is to try and reduce the number of convicts put to death under the act governing the control and prohibition of gun, cannon, munitions and knife and the military service act," Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou said. "But committers of serious offences are convicted and executed in accordance with the law." Ma also said that there is no clear consensus in Taiwan on abolishing the death penalty.
