Terrorists could face the death penalty in New Jersey under a new law signed by Gov. James E. McGreevey that makes terrorism a crime.
Any person who hides a terrorist or gives money to them would also be subject to the same punishment as those who launch an attack.
"The death penalty may not stop someone who wants to die but it would give great pause to those who would aid and assist," said Assemblyman Neil Cohen, the bill's sponsor.
Anyone convicted of terrorism would serve at least 30 years in prison without the possibility of parole. If the terrorist act resulted in death, the penalty could be death; the minimum penalty would be life in prison without parole.
