Thailand’s Court of Appeal upheld a lower court death sentence against Jirasak Chatworanit, alias Arsan, of the Yao hill tribe, for possessing 60 blocks of heroin and 100,000 methamphetamine tablets for sale. He was acquitted on charges of conspiring with others.
Mr Arsan was issued an arrest warrant by Narcotics Suppression Bureau and escaped to hide in China. He was deported by Chinese authorities to face prosecution in Thailand in February 2004.
