The 2nd Additional District and Sessions Judge of Dhaka, Bangladesh, sentenced M. Shahadat Hossain, 36, to death after convicting him of killing his wife and his son. According to prosecution, on July 7, 1997, the accused asked his wife to give him money to buy drugs. After she turned down the request the accused hit her with a brick, killing her. Their son Ronie, 9, rushed to the rescue but was also hit with the brick. Shahadat's daughter, Shahinoor, 6, hid under a cot and later informed her maternal grandmother, who lived nearby, of the incident.
