The Albanian government approved the draft-law "On ratifying Protocol VI of the European Human Rights Convention." The first article of the Convention provides for the abolition of capital punishment. Albania, in line with its new status as a special invitee to the Council of Europe, has undertaken to implement several juridical international obligations, such as the ratification of the European Human Rights Convention, besides the signing, ratification and implementation of the protocol on the abolition of the death sentence.
