The Andhra Pradesh Control of Organised Crime Act (APCOCA) came into effect on November 6. The state government issued a gazette notification, signalling a new beginning in its fight against the organised crime syndicates.
Although government officials insisted that the APCOCA was provisional and would lapse after two years, police officials say the new law can be enforced for a longer period if proved productive in countering criminal gangs.
