The Anti-Terrorism Court in Khuzdar, Pakistan passed the death sentence on 12 people, eight of them in absentia, for the murder of a tribal chief and two companions.
Sardar Mohammed Aslam Gichki was travelling with his men from Sharigi to Khokhri on June 9, when he was ambushed by the accused, who opened fire on the group in the Awaran district, bordering Iran. Sardar Mohammed Aslam Gichki, Naseer Ahmed and Pasand Khan, were killed on the spot. Five people were seriously injured.
Qadir Bux, Mohammed Khan, Abdul Nabi, Abdul K. Khaliq were arrested for the murder and face death by hanging. Eight others, also condemned, are still at large. They are Mir Mohammed Yaqub, Bhattay Khan, Mohammed Akbar, Mohammed Khan, Rahim Bux, Karim Dad, Sardar Rustam Khan and Mir Ali Haider. The latter two are sons of Sardar Arif Jan Mohammed Hasani, a rival tribal chief murdered a few years ago.
