The Central Jakarta District Court began the trial relating to the drive-by shooting of Supreme Justice M. Syafiuddin Kartasasmita in July 2000, which was allegedly masterminded by former president Soeharto's youngest son, Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra.
At the opening, prosecutor Abdul Kamar Badrun read the indictment against defendants Noval Hadad, 26, and R. Maulawarman, alias Molla, 37.
Both defendants face charges of premeditated murder, which carries the death penalty.
