The Constitutional Court (CC) of Armenia recognized the provisions of Protocol No.6 on abolition of the capital punishment of the European Human Rights Convention in conformity with the country's basic Law. The minister said that on January 25, 2001, Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan sighed the protocol on behalf of the country. The protocol provides for full abolition of capital punishment. The state, however, can apply the capital punishment in its legislation during war or in the case of an imminent attack.
