The Court of Cassation ratified a March 1999 State Security Court death sentence given to two men for their roles in what have become known as the "Rabia and Shmaysani murders," which left 12 people dead. The State Security Court sentenced Muhammad Jaghamin (executed on Mai 31, see following), the main suspect in the case, to death and also handed the same sentence to a second suspect, Ahmad Muhammad Subih, who was tried in absentia. According to court transcripts, the defendants said they wanted "to fight for God by killing and robbing Christians and Jews and Free Masons". The verdict needed to be approved by the cabinet and a royal decree.
