The European Parliament gave its endorsement of the EU-Algeria Association Agreement. The institutional resolution granting assent to this agreement was nonetheless accompanied by another resolution presented on behalf of all the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee by Chairman Elmar Brok. The resolution speaks of the persisting violence not only attributed to the terrorist groups but also to the paramilitary militia and the army. Other requests concern the rights of men and women and of the press, the right of association, abolition of the death penalty, respect of strong linguistic minorities (Berber language).
