Dutch authorities had stopped subsidising the housing and health benefits of CPP founding chairman Jose Maria Sison last September, after the U.S. included the Communist Party of the Philippines and its military arm, the New People's Army (CPP-NPA) in its list of 24 foreign terrorist groups. Sison, self-exiled in the Netherlands for the past 14 years, has not yet received the status of a political refugee, but the Dutch court said he would not be extradited to a country where he might face a death sentence.
