The European Union urged the United States to lift the death sentences on three men convicted of murder.
All three are on death row in Texas and are due to be put to death in August.
Two of the convicts, T.J. Jones and Toronto Patterson, were 17 when they committed their crimes and the EU says executing them would contravene international standards of human rights because they were minors at the time.
"The EU strongly believes that the execution of juvenile offenders is contrary to widely accepted human rights norms and the minimum standards of human rights set forth by the United Nations" the 15-member bloc said in a statement.
Jones is scheduled to be executed August 8. He was convicted of murdering an elderly man in 1994. Patterson is set to die 20 days later for a triple murder committed in 1995. Both are black.
The EU also asked the United States to lift the death penalty on Mexican Javier Suarez Medina who is scheduled to die in August. Medina is convicted of killing a police officer 14 years ago.
Mexican officials called on Washington in early July to call off the execution, saying police did not notify Medina of his right to consult the Mexican consulate at the time of his arrest, violating the Vienna Convention.
"It has come to the attention of the EU that the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations - to which the U.S. is a part - has been violated in this case," the EU said.
