the Federal Court in Malaysia uphold the conviction and death sentence on a female Indian national for trafficking 2.9 kgs of ketamine at the KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, four years ago.
A five-member panel led by Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin unanimously dismissed 64-year-old Fazila Bee Abdul Kareem's appeal and affirmed the decision of the High Court which found her guilty of drug trafficking and sentenced her to death.
Fazila Bee, a mother of three from Chennai, was charged with trafficking in the drugs at the International Arrival Hall of the KLIA at about 2.30pm on Feb 13, 2009.
On May 20, 2011, the High Court in Shah Alam convicted her and sentenced her to death after ruling that Fazila Bee had failed to raise a reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case.
Fazila Bee was unsuccessful in her appeal to the Court of Appeal which was dismissed on April 10, last year.
