The head of Lebanon's Hizbollah guerrilla group offered to free a captive Israeli colonel in return for the safety of around 100 Palestinian fighters besieged in the West Bank refugee camp of Jenin.
A statement issued on behalf of Hizbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah said the Palestinians were in danger of "liquidation and execution" by Israeli forces besieging the camp as part of a bloody 12-day-old offensive in the West Bank.
