The Illinois Supreme Court ordered new sentencing hearings for 2 death row inmates. For Martin Wooley, who was convicted of a double murder, the ruling means he will receive his 3rd sentencing hearing. The court ordered a new sentencing hearing for Wooley because the judge at his 2nd sentencing told some of the potential jurors that Wooley previously had received a death sentence. The court also ordered a new sentencing hearing for Tyrone Fuller, who was sentenced to death for the 1997 murder of Marc Feldman. The court said the trial judge failed to properly instruct the jury about how it must consider Fuller's mental state before it determined there were enough so-called aggravating factors to sentence him to death. Among the reforms the Illinois Supreme Court adopted following Gov. George Ryan's moratorium on executions was training for judges.
