The Intermediate People's Court of Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province, has sentenced Zhang Xiufa to death with a two-year reprieve and confiscated all his personal property for accepting huge bribes.
Zhang, 63, a native of Huitong County in Hunan, was also deprived of his political rights for life, according to the court verdict.
Court investigations showed that by taking advantage of his position as the head of the Hunan Provincial Posts and Telecommunications Administration, Zhang, in collusion with his two children Zhang Lin and Zhang Fang, took bribes totaling 37.35 million yuan between 1996 and 2000.
He was arrested on Aug. 26, 2000.
All the illicit money has been confiscated, according to the court.
