The Israeli Shin Bet Security Service arrested a man it says was the sniper who shot 10-month-old Shalhevet Pass, and Jewish settler leaders called for the death penalty. "The murder of this baby, which shocked the entire nation, requires more severe punishment than the usual prison sentences," the Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza said in a statement. Shalhevet Pass was killed in Hebron in March 2001. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's office, Mohammed Amaro , a member of the Fatah linked Tanzim in Hebron confessed to his Shin Bet interrogators to being responsible for the shooting. While Israel has in the past sentenced convicted Palestinian militants to death, the death sentence has been carried out only once - in the case of Nazi leader Adolf Eichmann, snatched by Israeli agents from his hide-out in Argentina in 1960 and brought to Jerusalem to stand trial.
