The Italian ambassador to Armenia, Paolo Andrea Trabalza, asked in an interview with the Armenian newspaper Azg to what extent Armenia meets its commitments to the Council of Europe, said:
"Concerning the governing of the country I should say that Armenia is on the right path. The only difficulty is connected not with the theoretical, but with the practical side. The problem is in the mentality of the people, and it will take a long time to change this. Also important in this respect is the solution of the death penalty issue in Armenia. The issue of abolishing the death penalty is the achievement of world civilization and a source of pride for us - Council of Europe members. We find that a person can not be deprived of life either legally or, even worse, illegally."
